Defense Secretary Returns to Pentagon

Offers condolences for three U.S. soldiers killed in Jordan.

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin returned to the Pentagon on Monday after working from home after a stay in the hospital following complications from prostate cancer surgery.

Secretary Austin said at a briefing, “I feel good and [am] recovering well — but still recovering — and I appreciate all the good wishes that I have received thus far.”

Secretary Austin offered condolences after the deaths of three U.S. service members killed in Jordan after an Iran-backed drone strike. He stated that he was glad to be back at the Pentagon “at this important time.”

“Let me start with my outrage and sorrow for the deaths of three brave U.S. troops in Jordan and for the other troops who were wounded,” Secretary Austin said during his in-person meeting with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. “The president and I will not tolerate attacks on U.S. forces and we will take all necessary actions to defend the U.S. and our troops.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • With gratitude for the defense secretary’s recovery and healing.
  • For wisdom for Secretary Austin and Pentagon leaders as they advice the president.
  • For the safety of U.S. troops deployed in the Middle East.
